Classes and the new school year...

It has been nice hearing from all of you about my new place. I enjoy it more and more each day. It is nice to have my own space and feel at home (not that I didn't have the same thing at Julio and Edita's). It's been interesting getting back into the swing of things here in Valladolid. It is so much different than from being in California and at times I find myself acting differently or doing things differently than I would in California, but none of this is bad. It is nice to know I can assimilate well into the Spanish culture. :)

I just finished my first week of school and it has been wonderful. I loved every minute of it. I finally have a definite schedule now and I am pretty happy with it.

This year I will be teaching mostly English except for the two classes I will teach History. I don't have the workshop class this year. I am teaching English to two groups of 1ESO (the first year of high school and they are also new to the school). Four of my students from the workshop class I taught last year are with me this year which makes me feel great that they got into the bilingual program. I believe 3 more (out of 12) also were accepted into the bilingual program at the high school, but aren't in my class. The rest of the workshop students either are going to different schools or they did not apply to be in English classes. I am also teaching both 2ESO classes in English (these were my favorite students from the previous year) and one class of 3ESO in English. In History I'm teaching the other 3ESO class and one of the 1ESO classes I'm teaching in English.

I have been having a great time getting to know the incoming students who are a lot of fun and have so many questions for me which shows me I will have no problem with participation from them. Also, my students from last year gave me a very sweet and warm welcome back. They were just as excited to see me as I was to see them. All in all it has been great.

I will make sure to keep you all posted. For the moment nothing new. I'm starting to plan trips for this year because our holidays are soon this year. I have a 5 day break from October 8-12 and I need some suggestions. Where would you go on a small budget for 4-5 days? (FYI: I have already been to: UK, Ireland, France, Italy, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Netherlands, Portugal and Greece)

Love, Celeste

And now for........ the new Piso/Apartment

It is finally time for me to share with everyone my temporary Spanish home. As most of you know, this year I've decided to live on my own partly because it is cheaper and partly to just do things on my own. Anyway, I have found a place to live after a week of searching and an unlucky and unfortunate encounter with some not so nice people. Now, I´m living with my friend Emily (the one I traveled with everywhere when I studied in Santander) and her friend Jeri. We are renting from a very sweet woman who is incredibly helpful and kind.

The piso is really nice and small, but perfect for us. Each bedroom is painted a different color (mine is blue) and all rooms (including kitchen and living room) are completely furnished and stocked. The only thing the girls and I had to purchase was bedding and groceries. Not too bad, right? Even better, I live a 30 second walk from the family I lived with last year.....so moving was quite easy even though we had a lot of luggage with us. :)

Here are the pictures of my piso. When possible, I´ll try to put some better ones on here. I hope you all will enjoy!!!!
This is our apartment building. Count 5 levels going up and that´s our piso.Jeri and Emily in our apartment elevator with the bedding.
Emily´s room....the yellow room.
The entrance to our piso...it no longer has the table by the door or the small mess you see on the chest of drawers.
This is our full bathroom with shower. You can´t see all of it, but for Spain it is a good size.

This is the balcony. It is not very wide, but we can fit chairs out here.
This is the view of my room from my door. The window opens up onto the balcony. (I haven´t fully unpacked here). The view of my room from the window.

The right side of the living room with a table and an entertainment system.
This is the right side of the kitchen with a washing machine.
The left side of the kitchen with an electric stove and fridge.
This is Jeri´s room, also known as the green room.
This is the hallway that connects all of the rooms together.

Here is the half bathroom which is where we store our cleaning supplies as well.
This is Calle Panaderos where Julio & Edita live. If you look closely past the green dumpster you can see me in a white shirt and Emily next to me. This picture is taken from Julio & Edita´s piso and where I´m standing is at my piso´s door. This shows you how close we really are!

Jeri took this picture of me from the balcony looking into my room. This is before we moved everything into the apartment.

I hope you liked the pictures!!! Love to all!

New place to live

Hi everyone!

This message to all of you is a little late, sorry for that. I've been incredibly busy trying to find a place to live, trying to work out my working schedule, renewing my temporary Spanish ID card and helping Emily and Jeri (Emily is a good friend of mine from Tennessee and Jeri is a friend of Emily's from Kentucky) get all of their things in order.

Yesterday, after what feels like weeks of searching, we moved into a OUR piso (apartment). It is a 5 minute walk to the city center and just a 30 second walk from my Spanish family's house (Julio and Edita). Yesterday morning, Jeri, Emily and I rolled our 9 suitcases down the street to our piso....I'm sure we looked pretty funny. So everything is moved into our apartment, although I haven't completely unpacked. We have bought groceries, bedding and other odds and ends. :) Today we cleaned the entire apartment so now it is ready to be lived in! I will upload pictures of our place within the next few days. We don't have internet at the apartment so we have to go to a cafe to use wi-fi...so please be patient.

I hope all of you are well and I will share more news soon.

Love, celeste <3
